What has made my life so much easier are automatic litter boxes and a table my brother built for me. All the lumps drop into the buckets below . The boxes are always clean and I empty the buckets every couple of days. I'd recommend something like this for anyone that has more then one cat.
Please note the automatic litter boxes aren't recommended for kittens under 10 months of age.
